Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicullatus) Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicullatus) The Australian Pelican is a large black and white bird, common to Melbourne's open fresh and salt waters. The area around the eye of the pelican is often yellow, the bill is pink with an extendable pouch of skin. Aboriginal name Wadjil (Woiwurrung). The Black Swan is a large graceful bird, common through out Melbourne's lakes and open freshwaters. They have a long slender neck, a red and orange beak with a white tip.
